PayPal's fee table stopped being one number years ago. The current US table separates Goods and Services transfers, Checkout, standard cards, invoicing by how the invoice is paid, Pay Later, and Pay by Bank, with fixed fees applying to some and not others and one product carrying a cap. The selector above mirrors the table row by row, each with its source-linked rate, and the result shows the fee, the effective rate, and your contribution after entered costs, with the refund fee-retention rule noted because it changes what a refund really costs you.

What is the PayPal Goods and Services fee?
On the current official US table: 2.99% with NO fixed fee for Send/Receive Money Goods and Services. It is commonly confused with PayPal Checkout, which is 3.49% + $0.49, a meaningfully different number on small orders. This calculator lists the products exactly as the official table does; pick the one that matches how you actually got paid.
Which PayPal fee applies to my invoice?
It depends on how the customer pays it: invoices paid with PayPal, Venmo or guest checkout are 3.49% + $0.49; paid by card or wallet, 2.99% + $0.49; Pay Later, 4.99% + $0.49; Pay by Bank, 1% capped at $10. One "PayPal invoice fee" does not exist, and the differences compound over a year of invoicing, which is why the product selector is not optional here.
What does an international payment add?
An additional 1.50% on commercial transactions, on top of the product rate. On a $500 international Checkout payment that is $7.50 extra. Tick the international box and the surcharge appears as its own labeled row. Currency conversion, if PayPal performs it, costs extra again and is not modeled here.
Do I get PayPal fees back when I refund a buyer?
No. Per the official fee page, original receiving fees are not returned on full or partial refunds: refund a $100 payment and the roughly $3.50 you paid to receive it stays gone. The calculator notes this on every result, because refund math is where PayPal margins quietly erode.
Why does this calculator not compare PayPal to eBay and Etsy directly?
Because they sell different things. eBay and Etsy fees buy access to their buyers; PayPal processes payment for a buyer you found yourself. PayPal being "cheaper" is true and useless without a traffic source. The compare view keeps direct payment processing in its own group, labeled as such, with no cross-group winner.
